Care Guide — Handmade Polymer Clay Creations

Thank you for choosing a Xanndora handmade piece. With a bit of care, your polymer clay jewellery and accessories will stay beautiful for years.

Quick Care (Save Me!)

  • Put jewellery on last, take it off first (avoid perfumes, hairspray, lotions).
  • Keep dry: remove before showering, swimming, sauna, or gym.
  • Avoid bending, pressing, or dropping — clay is light but not indestructible.
  • Store flat, separate from other items, away from heat/sun.
  • Clean gently with a soft, slightly damp microfiber cloth and mild soap only.
  • For metal parts: wipe with a non‑abrasive jewellery cloth; avoid chemical dips.
  • Keep away from solvents (acetone, nail polish remover), alcohol gels, essential oils.
  • Not a toy; small parts can be a choking hazard — keep away from children and pets.

What Your Piece Is Made Of

  • Polymer clay cured at low temperature: lightweight, slightly flexible in thicker forms, and comfortable for everyday wear.
  • Findings and components may include stainless steel, plated brass, sterling silver, hypoallergenic hooks, jump rings, posts, and backs.
  • Some finishes may include matte or satin sealers, resin/gloss coats, mica powders, metal leaf, or acrylic details. Treat all finishes gently.

Wearing & Handling

  • Put your piece on after makeup, sunscreen, fragrance, hair products, and tinted moisturisers.
  • Avoid pulling on earrings when removing masks, scarves, or headphones.
  • Don’t keep pieces in pockets or bags where they can be bent or crushed.
  • Very thin or sculpted designs are more delicate — handle edges and textured areas with care.

Cleaning

  • Everyday clean: Use a soft, lint‑free or microfiber cloth. If needed, a little lukewarm water with a drop of mild dish soap; pat dry.
  • Matte/unfinished clay surfaces: To lift dust or lint, press and lift with low‑tack tape (e.g., washi tape). Avoid scrubbing.
  • Glossy/resin‑coated areas: Wipe lightly with a damp cloth only. Avoid alcohol, acetone, or abrasive cloths.
  • Painted or metal‑leaf details: Dab gently; don’t rub. Avoid soaking.
  • Do not use: Alcohol gels, acetone/nail polish remover, silver dips, ultrasonic cleaners, bleaching agents, or rough sponges — these can dull, soften, or damage clay, sealers, adhesives, and plating.

Stains, Makeup, and Oils

  • Foundation or makeup: a barely damp cloth with mild soap; for matte unsealed clay, a tiny drop of soap on a soft cotton swab can help. Test a hidden spot first.
  • Pen/ink, dyes, or strong pigments can permanently stain clay — avoid contact.
  • If a stubborn mark remains, stop before you rub the surface shiny; contact us for advice.

Water, Heat & Sun

  • Keep pieces dry. Prolonged moisture can weaken adhesive bonds and dull some finishes.
  • Avoid high heat (cars in summer, radiators, saunas). Extreme temperatures can soften clay and compromise glues/resins.
  • Store away from direct sunlight to preserve colours and any gold/silver leaf accents.

Storage

  • Store flat and separate to prevent scratches and tangles (pouches or small zip bags work well).
  • Add a small silica gel or anti‑tarnish strip to jewellery boxes when metal components are present.
  • Keep away from rough surfaces or items that can scratch (keys, other metal pieces).

Caring for Metal Components

  • Stainless steel: Generally low‑maintenance. Wipe with a soft cloth; mild soap + water if needed, and dry immediately.
  • Gold‑plated or brass: Keep dry. Natural tarnish/patina may occur; restore shine with a non‑abrasive jewellery cloth. Avoid chemical dips and polishing pastes.
  • Sterling silver: Use a silver‑polishing cloth (not dip) and avoid rubbing onto clay areas.
  • Posts/backs: If a backing loosens, replace with a snug silicone or metal back. Do not force bent posts; ask us to adjust.

Repairs & Adjustments

  • If a jump ring opens or a post loosens, stop wearing the piece and contact us. We’ll guide you through a quick fix or arrange a repair.
  • Please don’t superglue at home — many glues bloom/whiten and can damage finishes.

Safety & Allergy Notes

  • Small parts present a choking hazard; keep out of reach of children and pets.
  • We choose skin‑friendly components wherever possible, but sensitivities vary. If irritation occurs, discontinue use and contact us about alternative findings.

Sustainability & Care Ethos

  • Well‑cared‑for handmade pieces last longer and reduce waste. Please reuse the pouch/box for storage, and reach out for repairs instead of replacing.
